Born in
Schwerin in 1954, the artist confines himself not only to pleasant environments.
He concerned himself with the real world which was often regarded with mistrust
and envy. Thus he resisted the artistic and social conformity which was prelevant
at this time.
Norbert Folberger's art provokes, because he doesn't like
works which slink around in the unpolitical abstract space.This is the source
of the fascination of his art: thrilling, direct and powerfull. Not amenable
to a current art direction, he delights in transforming the human body model
in his own artistic expression. The "authenticity" of his works results
from his background studies, describing the "illusion of harmony",
where the common people see only the dangerous underside of life. The real spiritual
and mentional dimension of the artist who at first seems like an uncomplicated
and straight forward Nort-East German can only be discovered through long conversations.
The
abiding impression is his mastery of his craft - the drawn line. Norbert Folbetger
is from the school of figurative artists. He wants the beholder to understand
his message - with all the secrets and the impenetrable mysteries which still
remain and make his works so exciting. Since 1989 Norbert Folberger has participated
in exhibitions in numerous countries in Europe, America and Asia and today he
belongs to the "arrivals" in the art scene. 1992 Norbert Folberger
became a member of the Fédération Nationale de la Culture Francaise
(National French Cultur Federation), which lead the most of his exhibitions
and was made possible his scholarship at the Pollock-Krasner-Foundation in New
York in 1994. At this time he showed his paintings on Broadway, won the Grand
Prix Mondial in Avignon and got a critis-price in Hong Kong. Norbert Folberger
proved, that the best artists are these, who follow their own inspirations and
don't follow the current trends. His works please, because he speaks his own
language. The independence of this artist bases on a good technique, originality
in the way of thinking and a marked personality.
Folberger's art offers us the pleasing result of the activity of a man, who
succeded in creating an understanding from within his environment and above
all from his personal and formative experiences on which his works are built.
